Trump's Head Vote Suppressor, Kris Kobach, Won't Comply With His Own Anti-Voter Commission
Kris Kobach is the most notorious vote suppressor in the United States – and he’s one of the heads of Trump’s Voter Intimidation commission.
One of Kobach’s top priorities has been pressuring states to give up the personal information of their voters – things that could identify them publicly, and lead to baseless voter fraud lawsuits that will intimidate voter turnout. Sherrilyn Ifill, the President and Director Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, was on Rachel Maddow last night to lay out what this coudd look like:
Kobach is busy doing everything he can to get states to give up private information on their own voters. The one problem? Kris Kobach is refusing to give up that information for his own state, Kansas, where he is Secretary of State.
Seriously:
Multiple states plan to buck Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s request for personal information on voters on behalf of a presidential commission.
Kobach said Friday that Kansas, at least for now, also won’t be sharing Social Security information with the commission, on which he serves as vice chairman. The state will share other information about the state’s registered voters, including names and addresses, which are subject to the state’s open records laws.
As you might imagine, the only response has not been kind:
Ho. Le. Cow. What a blunder. Kobach can’t provide the information he himself requested in the letter. Oh my oh my. https://t.co/JXuKm2F9QP

!! Kris Kobach—who co-chairs Trump’s Election Commission—won’t provide Kansans’ SSNs, which his Comission requested. https://t.co/m7losNQ8Si

Kobach’s Kansas can’t fulfil his own request for voter data. Mississippi GOP tells him to jump in the Gulf of Mexico https://t.co/mp9nZ0PagG pic.twitter.com/efG8NWGDlC
