Republicans Abandon Roy Moore one day Before Election

Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) became the latest GOP legislator to publicly come out against suspected child molester and Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore.
In an interview on Monday’s “Morning Joe” on MSNBC, Hurd called GOP Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore an “abomination to the Republican Party,” saying Americans deserve better.

“I disagree with President Trump on a recent thing, Roy Moore. I think Roy Moore is an abomination to the Republican Party, and that’s one thing Republicans and Democrats agree on … the American people deserve better.”

On Tuesday, Alabama voters will choose between Moore and Democrat Doug Jones to fill the Senate seat left empty when Jeff Sessions was tabbed by President Trump to serve as his Attorney General. But on the eve of the election, Hurd is the third Republican to come out against Roy Moore over multiple accusations of child molestation.
Alabama GOP Sen. Richard Shelby said last week that he voted for a Republican write-in candidate to avoid casting a vote for Moore.

“No, no, no, I voted absentee. I didn’t vote for him. I voted for a distinguished Republican write-in. Well, it’s not a good situation. I wish we had another candidate.”

And also on Monday, a member of the Republican National Committee (RNC), citing Shelby’s decision, resigned over the RNC’s renewed support for Moore.
Joyce Simmons, an RNC member from Nebraska, issued the following statement following her resignation.

“I strongly disagree with the recent RNC financial support directed to the Alabama Republican Party for use in the Roy Moore race. There is much I could say about the situation but I will defer to this weekend’s comments by Senator Shelby. I will miss so many of you that I knew well; and I wish I could have continued my service to the national Republican Party that I used to know well.”

Trump officially endorsed Moore during a Florida campaign rally near the Alabama border on Friday night, urging his supporters to head to the polls on Tuesday.
