Oil exploration and alternative EnergyWe need to start drilling for oil in every known place we can find it!! We are slaves to the oil producing countries literally. The time is now people because it will take five to ten years to get the oil we drill for today to go online. Drill threw the white house if we need to. The next thing we need to do is build more refineries and start converting coal to fuel. This problem is not going to go away any it’s going to kill us. The country’s we get our oil from could care less they only care about our MONEY PEOPLE they don’t even like us! There taking about oil going up to $200.00 a BARRAL eight to ten dollars a gallon of gas! That would destroy the US economy, shut down the air lines and probably put the US in a Depression like the world has never seen before. The sadist thing of all do you think anyone would come to our rescue? You think we would get any aid? Do we even have any friends that could help us? If you think we do then who are they? |

Actually Ken, the to-do
Actually Ken, the to-do items you have listed are the LAST things we need to do. Feeding the American oil habit will only postpone the inevitable, further destroy our ecosystems, and take resouces away from research and development of alternative forms of energy.
Did you ever think about attacking the "oil problem" from the other end? Reduce demand, and NOT increase supply.
We need to act now
Bill I agree with you to an existent But We can’t stop are dependant’s on oil completely either there are too many things made from oil.
We need to explore every option available from alternative energy to oil exploration before we end up in deep trouble.
We need to protect the mother earth also I’m a Native American and love mother earth but have nightmares about another great depression. Could you imagine what would happen if we where to have a great depression now? Don’t even tell me it’s not possible.
Everyone I know is making decisions’ like do we eat and keep our lights on or put gas in the car to get to work now with gas at $4.00 a gallon what if it reaches $8.00a gallon?
Ken, I understand where you
Ken, I understand where you are coming from, but Americans are somewhat spoiled. Europeans, and other parts of the world, have been paying $5.00/gallon and up for gasoline for over a decade.
The typical American demand for "bigger and better" needs to come face-to-face with reality. Fossil fuels are a finite resource, and as demand increases, supply remains virtually the same. As you point out, there are many other beneficial uses for petroleum than as a combustible fuel, and we need to preserve the remainder of this fossil-based resource for those products.
The only hope for future generations is for the current guardians of Mother Earth to bite the bullet (reduce demand), and invest heavily into research and development of nuclear, hydro, solar, and other forms of alternative energy sources -- now! The solutions are there, but Big Oil and Big Money don't want to let go of their current monopolies.
Nationalization of fossil fuel supply and demand will do very little to impact the reality of the urgent need to change the direction of energy sources, and energy management, for future generations.
Reducing demand or increasing supply? Neither...until...
..until we get the big oil companies and electric companies out of the loop. We need the government to nationalize energy first. Neither reducing demand nor increasing supply will save our economy as long as big oil has a strangle hold on us, our congress and the white house.
Nationalize All Energy NOW
Do you want to have a REAL energy policy? Do you want to plan for the loss of resources? Do you want real solutions to out-of-control prices? Or, is it ok for our party (and the other) to keep giving multi-billion dollar tax breaks to multi-national big oil to continue to fix production and prices?
Then the debate should be over nationalizing all energy.
For you younger people...the government has the right to nationalize (take over and run) businesses if it is in the national interest and impacts national security. We need to do this NOW with all energy, i.e., petroleum, electricity. There is no reason the leaches should be profiting off the misery of our citizens.
Back before the neo-nazis and hate-radio took over the American media, there was a huge debate over whether the government should run and plan for energy..without the benefit (or corruption) of big oil. Before that, big oil was busted up by anti-trust laws because it had too much power.
The debate needs to return to the nationalization of energy. Clearly, private-sector big oil cannot be trusted to have the nation's interest at heart, especially now since they are multi-national. They are draining us and our economy as much as they can possibly get away with. They will continue to buy and pay for our congressional representatives and presidents until they are out of business.
Let me tell you this: if a few people who have access to others, i.e., bloggers, media, etc., start calling for the nationalization of all energy companies, gas prices will drop dramatically -- almost overnight. Come on, let's do it. Let's get serious about taking back OUR OWN resources. Big oil did not do anything or pay anything for OUR OWN resources, they still don't. They are making us pay for it thru the nose and now they are ruining the U.S. economy.
Call for the nationalization of all energy in this country. Do it now, before it is too late, before they drive us all into an even greater depression than 1929.
WE GET 98% OF OUR OIL FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD THAT HATE US.
We can do anything we wish with the greedy bugers here in the US. People don't seem to understand we do not have any control over the price of oil we get from other parts of the world. They have a strangle hold on us. If they wonted to sell a barrel of oil for $1000.00 we would have to pay it or walk to work. When we get 98% of our oil from other parts of the world that don't like us. They just like our money they don't care if we don't eat or if we have to walk. We do not control the world like some people seem to think that's why most of the world hates us now.
Wake up people before it's to late. Everyone blames the little oil companys in the US for the problem. The real problem is the rest of the world we get the oil from and have no control over what they sell oil at.
We need to find alternative energy and Drill threw the white house or where ever we can
too reduce strangle hold they have on us.
Ken, the "little oil
Ken, the "little oil companies in the US" are actually global conglomerates. The world's fossil fuel supply is controlled by a very few people who are definitely not stupid. "People" DO understand that we have no control over the price of a barrel of oil, and that applies worldwide -- not only in the US. We also have no "control" over the price of gold, wheat, soybeans, or any other commodity. "Raw" prices are determined by the global markets (see below), and the global markets reflect the fluctuations between supply and demand.
If the problem was only the Saudis and "those who hate us," and the solutions were as simple as you seem to believe, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
What YOU don't seem to understand, is that US companies like Halliburton and Exxon, and European companies like Royal Dutch Shell, also control oil prices -- not just the Saudis or OPEC. Oil pricing is currently tied to the US dollar, and therefore the US economy is heavily influenced by "market-driven" oil prices, and the strength of the dollar against other world currencies.
Iran is forming an "oil bourse" (like a stock market), which is the real reason the Big Money behind the Dubya administration is pushing hard for a war with Iran. The Iranian oil bourse would replace the US dollar as the oil standard. See this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iranian_oil_bourse
The major supplies of fossil fuel remaining in the world are in the Middle East, but Western manipulators have a huge influence on price.
Look we don't need to fight we need to unite togather
The Saudis or OPEC control the supply they don't wont to pump any more infact they could refuse to sell to us at all. We have more oil here in the US than in any other place in the world and they will not let us drill for it.
Just here in Michigan there's oil under 3/4 of the state Billions of gallons.

Secret Colorado
Oil Discovery
Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains
lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world — more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. Three companies have been chosen to lead the way. Test drilling has already begun...

As for the week Dollar if the fed's would quit printing worthless money and stop trying to bail out the banks the Dollar wouldn't be as week.Stop barrowing money we can't pay back from china and Japan and putting up Federal land for collateral All there doing is prolonging the inevitable and distroying the US economy anyway.
We could start a hole new blog about that subject.
Look we don't need to fight what we need to do is put our heads together unite together
and come up with some good ideas. Then find a way to implement them.
That's the real problem what happened to the unity. They know we can't get more than a couple of people to agree about anything so they have total control!!
Ken, as "evidence,"
Ken, as "evidence" for your unfounded arguments, you are using a bogus "pump-and-dump" flyer from a stock-market scam artist which refers not to crude oil reserves, but to oil shale. I receive several "flyers" like this each day, and they are part of a well-known stock market scam: by making outrageous claims, they attempt to raise the price of a particular low-priced "unlisted" stock by a few cents, and then immediately sell it. You should really do a little more research before you state something as a "fact." You are entitled to your own opinions, but NOT your own facts. There are not "2 trillion barrels" of oil in the entire world's proven reserves.
The true picture of Colorado's known oil reserves is here:
http://www.coloradopetroleumassociation.org/facts.htm
Also, see this link for a factual picture of the world's oil reserves: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_reserves
As you can readily see, the bulk of the world's known oil reserves are located in the Middle East (well over 700 billion barrels), and the US has only 21 billion barrels as of 2007. As for the Rocky Mountain estimated reserves of "oil shale," see this excerpt from the above link:
It is not yet economically feasible to process oil shale into usable petroleum (energy used in processing vs. potential energy gained) and may not be for the foreseeable future.
The world-wide pricing of oil is controlled to a large extent by OPEC (increasing, or reducing supply) and the Western-controlled oil markets (representing both supply AND demand). At least attempt to wrap your head around these factual economic concepts, and THEN form your opinions.
The only sane way (exclusive of declaring war) that the US can become energy-independent of OPEC is by fostering research into alternative forms of energy, AND by decreasing demand (more public transportation, fuel efficient vehicles, etc.). You can poke all the holes into American soil and its costal areas that you want, but there is still only a 10-12 year finite supply of proven US oil reserves to be sucked up. Even if the oil shale refinement problems can be solved, that is only an estimated 110 year supply (3-4 generations), and what then?
drill for more oil - wrong!
When people become fearful they begin to look for quick fix immediate short term ways to deal with the problem to avoid any discomfort, so they can go on about their business like nothing happened. The problems with that in this case are multifaceted. Going to increased drilling here is a short term reactionary fix. It requires rolling back rules on the environment and allows only a few major companies to reap massive profits while devistating our beautiful lands. Part of the problem with that is in short sightedness we forget all the other things these lands provide us with that will be sacrificed like food and shelter for instance. IT seems to me that one of the issues is a large number of the population does not know or care to know where things come from or what is sacrificed or killed or destroyed to make all the shiny little trinkets we spend our time on or what is involved in supplying food or materials for shelter or clothes or cars or fuels. WE just turn on the swithc or faucet or run to the local store for what we need. We knew these issues were coming and our elected officials are so tied to the oil lobbyists and lobbyists from military companies and automakers, etc.. that in their short sightedness and greed choose to keep us on a tired and worn path. American carmakers do not want to spend to retool factories quickly to use other technologies and just keep churning out muscle cars instead as if not attached to the issue. We have become stagnate to some degree in researching other technologies or to some degree new ideas are suppressed to continue the status quo. If people began changing even a few things here and there to go away from oil products we could ween ourselves off of it. Oil is not the answer and neither is ethenol (at least in current forms) these are short term fixes for a desperate people that chooses not to look ahead with vision and right action in the name of greed and staus quo. We the citizens are the ones who have to change our habbits and use smarter and better technologies that are available now. This will fuel a shift which will allow better products to come forward. The system is not going to change on it's own and we have to act to make it change by demanding and using alternatives. Only when money is no longer flowing out of their ears will these people even think about changing their habbits. The question is when will we change ours. We destroy a lot of land that could be used for living, or planting, or foresting, etc so we can get a little oil or coal. Is that really a good trade?? Change is inevitable but it can be enjoyable and enlightening or harsh and instantaneous. Which shall we choose?
