Thanks

They are all too far for me to consider going but hopefully he will come somewhere closer soon. I would like a chance to get to see him in person.

Edwards announced his formal entry into the race

for President in 2008 at the 9th Ward(totally devastated by
Katrina)in NOLA. The Media had their "knives"ready.

While I do not have a favorite candidate at the moment,
Edwards has certainly done some admirable things in the
area of Poverty. Established a Poverty Center at UNC.
Worked in several states to help get the Minimum Wage
raised. He certainly has established his credentials
as a "real democrat".

IMO,The Media had their pre-planned line all ready. They
have a problem with rich people talking about poverty.
Such snide "multimillionaire arrows" Apparently it
is sinful to start in almost impoverished conitions (some wouldconsider poverty) and raise yourself to multimillionnaire status. "He looks so tired"-meow meow mewo.

I find it ironic--Hillary is no one's poor child., nor
is Obama. One of the greatest Democratic Presidents
of all time FDR was Rich, JFK very rich. It is terrible
however that John Edwards has wealth he earned.

Folks, do not let the Media play people for fools.IMO
Remember Media (especially TV Media) are some of the
higher paid people in the US. The only thing that makes
them "Librul" is their positions on God Guns Gays, ABortion
--the Cultural issues. Economic Issues (Medicare, Medicaid, SS, Welfare, etc) these same Media are to
the right of the average citizen.(Much more Republican
than Democrat). IMO;If you analyze this they are truly
more liberatarian than Liberal. Talking about Poverty
is taboo among these people. My Friends they pay big
tax bills,or they think they do(they make big bucks). Mention Poverty and they think you are going after their wallet.
IMO,As Media, they try to find something else to attack on
rather than look heartless. Just watch how often they
say "American people think poverty issues are the
fault of the person in poverty.

We are reaching a danger point re Gap between Haves and
Have nots. Call the Media Out if necessary.

That is the one thing

That swings me towards Edwards as in 04. He understands we need to build industry and have high paying hopefully union jobs with benefits. He seems to care about and believe in coming up with a plan to make sure even the poorest of our society has health care coverage.

On your point about the wealth, I liked it. It is amazing how extremely wealthy people like the Kennedy's and FDR actually cared so much about the working (and at the time non-working) poor. I learned in studying FDR that he really was against expanding the government. His views were actually mildly Conservative at the time but he just realized that so many people were devestated and in need of aid that something had to be done. After he was elected he didn't let anyone stop him from helping them. JFK and RFK were born with golden spoons. It is amazing how much they wanted to help the poor. Especially in the case of RFK who very well knew the dangers he faced if he ran. Back then he had little security unlike today. His was possibly one of the greatest sacrifices for country ever in that he faced those dangers for love of country and desire to change wrongs and well no matter what you believe we all know how it ended......

I think it really bothers the establishment that John Edwards was born to a working class family and worked his way through law school and made himself into a multi-millionaire. Most of them inherited and I think they find it threatening, especially considering his quick rise to national prominence. Whether right or wrong this makes me admire him even more.

As far as the taxes go I have pretty much resigned myself to always paying them. If taxes have to go up just a little, I would pay them. I just believe that if you are going to pay taxes anyway I would rather let a couple of people slip through and cheat the system to get to the one child that really needed the help. We can throw away probably $500 billion dollars on Iraq before its over, but we can't help that child in our own neighborhoods? I just find that appalling. If we would quit wasting billions and billions on blowing things up and rebuilding them over and over, we could lower taxes AND help that child!!!

I seem to have pretty much settled on Edwards, but if he isn't nominated I sure hope its Clark or Gore that is.

Edwards is the man with

Edwards is the man with honesty and truth.

Did you see

Donna Brazille, CNN, Situation Room. Made the prediction
that Gore would receive a reward for his film, kiss it
then throw his hat in the ring for the Presidential Race??

She did say she did not know this is true absolutely but
she believes he will do it to unite party.

Couple of Edwards Items...

First a piece on Edward's speech at the Riverside Church in NYC commemorating MLK... the quote is a winner and he sent out an appeal to his email list to pressure Congress -

"Silence is betrayal, and I believe it is a betrayal not to speak out against the escalation of the war in Iraq," John Edwards 01-14-07

Edwards Echoes King's Anti-War Message Sunday 14 January 2007 New York - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards called on Americans to resist President Bush's planned troop escalation in Iraq, echoing a plea by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. 40 years ago to end the Vietnam War.

Edwards addressed about 1,200 parishioners Sunday at Riverside Church, a multiracial, politically active Manhattan congregation where King delivered his famous "Beyond Vietnam" speech on April 4, 1967. King was assassinated exactly one year later. Edwards spoke from the same wooden pulpit King used and was introduced by King's son, Martin Luther King III. The younger King said his father would have admired Edwards' commitment to fighting poverty.

The former North Carolina senator and 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee touched on poverty issues in his speech, as well as AIDS in Africa, energy independence and a proposed boost in the minimum wage. But he saved his strongest words for the troop increase in Iraq, invoking King's condemnation of the Vietnam War as a betrayal of American values. "Silence is betrayal, and I believe it is a betrayal not to speak out against the escalation of the war in Iraq," Edwards said to a sustained standing ovation. ... full article

next the latest from Zogby...

Former vice presidential candidate John Edwards starts the new year with a double–digit lead over three impressive rivals a year before Iowans go to caucus to choose their next presidential nominee, a new Zogby telephone poll of likely Iowa Democratic caucus—goers shows.

Republicans are leaning toward two well–known moderates – Arizona Sen. John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani – in the race to replace George W. Bush at the top of their presidential ticket, a separate Zogby telephone survey of likely Republican caucus participants shows.

The pair of telephone surveys are the first Zogby Road To New Hampshire polls to be released as part of an exhaustive package of polling data, analysis, and commentary available as part of Zogby’s presidential tracking. For more details, go to www.zogby.com. The Democratic survey included 596 likely caucus-goers and was conducted January 15-16. The margin of error is +/- 4.1 percentage points. The Republican survey was conducted with 465 likely caucus-goers and was conducted January 15-16. It carries a margin of error of +/- 4.6 percentage points.

"I did not like fascists when I fought them as a diplomat for 23 years and I don't like them now in my own country." - retired American diplomat Joe Wilson

Wonder why Zogby left Wes Clark off the poll? ...

anyone know?

Not Sure

I like Wes but I think that if he is going to make a move he probably should soon. There are too many others that are making headlines and getting talked about. I think his and Edwards main mistake in 04 was that they jumped into the fray too late. I guess its not absolutely essential yet, but Wes does need to make a move, or get some headlines or something soon lest he be forgotten.

Clark for unions Grinch

http://www.clark04.com/downloads/pdf/Clark04_AmericasWorkers.pdf

Here's an info link on Clark's support of the American worker. I know you're a Clark guy and you probably already know where he stands on the issues, but I appreciated learning about it. I like Edwards, who is also staunchly in support of organized labor. They are both the best candidates that Democrats have right now I think. But in answer to one of your posts about "criteria", I do give Edwards the nod for what I feel is his compassion. I believe that compassion is the andidote to the neo-crueltyism that has our nation in a claw-grip. The pseudo-sympathy that I see in some candidates, like Obama, is annoying as hell, and feels like more ego-grandising. All these guys have big egos, they have to have something propelling them into the fray, so we must pay close attention to what candidates say in an effort to see behind the words and find out who they really are. I can't see behind Clark's words, yet, but I will in time.

Thanks for the update

I had heard about the "silence is betrayal" speech and liked it. It is good to see that Edwards leads both Clinton and Obama in one early crucial primary, er well caucus. I have been very pleased after voicing early support for the man that he is speaking loud and clear. He is not afraid to pick a fight and run as a Democrat. More and more I think he is what we need. His labeling the escalation of troops in Iraq the "McCain Doctrine" was genius, we all have to give him credit for that. I heard a national Rasmussen poll is going to come out 22-21-15, Clinton, Obama, and Edwards in that order.

I know a lot of good arguments can be made for a lot of different people, but right now I still really hope that Edwards gets the nomination. As a Democrat I do like both Hillary and Obama so I am not going to trash them but I feel they just cannot win. The hate machine that awaits to rise up against either one of the two is astronomical. They are already saying that Obama admitted cocaine use and had some fraudulent land deal. Hillary is comepletely vilified in huge swaths of the nation.

I would just like for any Hillary or Obama supporter to come on here and tell me if they really believe that Hillary can weather the HUGE hate machine that will instantly be unleashed against her. How can she overcome the horrible image already carved on the American psyche? And how will Obama ever survive having an organized hate machine unleashed onto him for the first time? I guarantee you he has never seen anything like what will arise against him, and any skeleton he has will be fully exposed. Does he really have the moxy to win?

That is why I see Edwards more and more as the perfect alternative. He has been through a national race and weathered the personal attacks with grace. Anything that could be dug up on him as a Veep candidate on a national ticket you can bet has been dug up. More importantly, and most importantly he hasn't been put out and completely vilified yet. He can still make a claim that he could unify our country. He still has a higher favorable rating than unfavorable, after being through a bitter closely contested election in 04. Most important to me, he is already running a very smart, vocal campaign and he is running as a Democrat who is not afraid of being a Democrat.

Just look at this last week. He labeled the escalation the "McCain Doctrine", called on Congress to use its power to stop the escalation, and then went to Hillary's home ground and called on her to speak up and stop the escalation. That means he got a real good jab in on both frontrunners within a couple of days. The McCain Doctrine thing might stick for a while. Like him or not, that is the kind of campaign Democrats everywhere need to run, and if more did we would have more winners.
