Iraq Sellout #2: Call Congress TodayOn Thursday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi will try again to force the House to approve $163 billion more of our tax dollars for the occupation of Iraq - nearly $100 billion for 2008 plus nearly $70 billion more for 2009. Last week, your passionate calls persuaded several Democrats to vote no and helped delay the vote for a week. Please call your House Representative again today at 202-224-3121! We are outraged because this Democratic Congress was elected to end the occupation, not fund it forever. A new Democrats.com poll found an overwhelming 68% of Americans want to bring our troops safely home within 6 months - a significant increase from 54% last September. As our economy tanks, we cannot afford to waste $163 billion more of our tax dollars for Iraq on top of the $562 billion we've already wasted and the $3-5 trillion overall cost, included tripling the price of gasoline. On Tuesday, the conservative voters in Mississippi's 1st CD elected a Democrat, Travis Childers, because he promised to bring our troops home from Iraq. There is absolutely no political reason for any Representative to vote for the occupation. So it's urgent for everyone to call his or her House Representative (not Senators) today with a simple message: Not One More Penny to Occupy Iraq! This battle is far from impossible. On January 16, 42 progressive Democrats voted against the last $70 billion blank check. This week, 21 more Democrats promised to vote no (see below). Most Republicans oppose Pelosi's bill because it includes some domestic spending, so a large bloc of progressive Democrats can defeat it. Call the switchboard at 202-224-3121 or find your House Representative's name and direct dial by entering your address on the right side here. Please report the results of your call here: Thanks for all you do!

Iraq Occupation/war
I called Tim Mahoney's office at 9:20 a.m. today 5/15 and expressed my desire for him to vote against further spending on the Iraq Occupation.
Si Lane
Punta Gorda, FL
Funding For Iraq
I called Susan Davis' office. Staff did not know how she would vote. I stated that I wanted an explanation from if she votes for the funding. I stated that I urge her strongly to vote against this funding.
iraq spending
I called Representative Chris Smith's office and told them no more spending for Iraq, especially in an economy is bad shape. The money could be better spent here at home and the troops need to be brought back home. The aide said he would pass the message on.
Bill Young
I called Bill Young's office and the aide said she would pass along my comments to vote no on the new Iraq spending bill.
Call to Jerry McNerney
The receptionist at McNerney's office had me repeat my request and read it back to me on a few occasions.
I clicked on the email you sent to report on my call as you requested. I got to this page. I struggled for a good period of time to find where to leave the message. I left and returned. I registered. I even emailed one of the members listed as being on line to ask for help.
Consider making this reporting a lot easier or explain how to do it. A waste of a good period of time and failure can lead to anger, not an emotion we would wish to be attached to Democrats.com--BUT ONE YOU DESERVE for being so inconsiderate.
calling Rep. Braley
The man who answered said he wasn't Mr. Braley's "Defense advisor" (?) and he was mildly impatient-sounding yet assured me that he would pass my information along, although he didn't ask for my contact information. I had to give it to him.
I said to tell the representative that I had stopped by his Waterloo IA office about a week and a half ago to drop off a copy of A Responsible Plan to End the Iraq War and wondered if he'd gotten it, that it's time for Mr. Braley to sign onto legislation already signed by some of the women he was traveling around with in Iowa, to stop the funding of the war. (Okay, maybe I can see why the man was impatient!) Mr. Braley also hasn't signed onto any of the bills listed in the Plan. And lastly I wanted to know exactly how many soldiers have died AS A RESULT of this war--not just the ones who literally die in Iraq and Afghanistan, but all of them--the ones who died on the way to Landstahl or at the hospital and on the way home to the states and in the hospitals here. This is the third time I've asked.
Called Niki Tsongas (MA)
I called her office at 9:45am today and asked how she was voting. They said that she "would not be voting for it today." Unfortunately it is not clear if she may vote otherwise on another day.
Iraq War funding
I called Rep. Richie Neal of Western Massachusetts this morning and was told by a staff member that he was voting against the bill to fund the war.
No more money for war!
Called congresswoman Slaughter's office - said no more money - staff said she would pass on the message.
no more funding for this outlandish/failed iraq war
i called my rep allyson schwartz on 5/15 and spoke to someone in her office and basically told her that not one more penny can be delved out to this administration and pelosi wants to allow 163 billion dollars to be transfered over to this so-called administration of complete failure.pelosi has been easily persuaded to the repub's way of irrational way of so-called thinking.so come january it will be time to replace her because pelosi has been a complete disappointment or as i prefer to call it pelosi has been nothing but a freakin' failure bending over backwards to this failed administration its time for pelosi to GO! terrence fahy

More money for the debacle known as the Occupation of Iraq
I called my rep, Brian Higgins, and voiced my extreme opposition to more funding for this "war." Because Higgins is sometimes nothing more than a Republican in Dem's clothing, he seems to agree with Bush on this issue. This, despite the fact that the city he is representing is the 2nd poorest in the nation. $270 million a day could go a long way for us. :( BTW, after clicking on the link requesting me to report my results from this action, I did not find a place to do so. Thus, I am "reporting" it here.
demacrats against war
I know the congress has had problems getting started against bush. Now is the time to start acting like free americans we have got to start spending were it will help the american people . We must stop this in moral cancer and relize how inportant our party acts are in correcting our country.
My call to John Culberson's Office
I left a message for John with his assistant this morning. She was very courteous. I told her I didn't want one more dollar of my tax money going to kill innocent people in Iraq and going toward getting more U.S. soldiers killed. She said she'd give John the message. I almost told her to have John slap the shit out of Nancy Pelosi, but I thought he'd probably enjoy that too much so I decided against it. I'D like to slap the shit out of John and Nancy. How 'bout them apples? Don't hold your breath that these phone calls will have any effect on Congress at all. The Democrats will continue to be the spineless, sell out sucks they are and fund this illegal occupation until forever. So long as there are "strategic U.S. interests" aka OIL and NATURAL GAS in the Middle East, U.S. soldiers will be there to kill for it and be killed. Wake up and realize this plain fact.
While I made the phone call to Culberson's office, I don't expect him to vote no on the latest funding appropriation for Iraq. He's a Republican sack of shit, and he's not too bright, either. He couldn't care less what I think about anything. I've been to one of his so called "Town Hall" meetings here in Houston. It was more of a Rethug Lovefest. I was the only one in the entire auditorium yelling at him and calling him on his numerous lies and obfuscations. Until we completely clean house in Congress and get a government made up of ordinary citizens instead of corrupt, fascist, wealthy politicians, we are going to see more of the same shit and nothing will ever change.
Have a nice day.
Right ON Chris
Hi Chris
Right on brother!!! I'm so glad that you have the nerve to stand up in a room full of people and voice your opposition. Even though I'm in California, I'm with you! Keep up the good work, remember if you keep dropping water on a stone, you can change the stone. I'd also like to slap Miss Nancy. What a terrible disappointment she is to us all!
No more funding
I called my congressman Todd Platts (R-PA) and asked the staffer to pass on a message: No more money for the Iraq occupation except for what it costs to bring home our troops. She agreed to pass it on to this right-wing Republican who will likely vote in lockstep.
Iraq war funding nonsense.
I called Congressman Nunes' office to protest the proposed billions for financing the Bush debacle in Iraq. The staffer that answered said: "Great! I'll pass that request along to the congressman!"
I doubt that Nunes really cares about ceasing the boondoggle. He's had his nose where the sun don't shine on Bush's anatomy for so long, he can't respond to anyone else's needs BUT BUSH's.
Funding the war in Iraq
Called Barbara Lee's office, expressed support for Barbara's strong "no" votes on war funding. The staff person thanked me for my expression of support.
Called Norm Dicks
Left a message for Dicks - shame on him for not already taking a stand against funding this illegal occupation. I hope Paul Richmond defeats him this November. NO MORE DICKS IN CONGRESS!
Iraq Sellout #2: Call Congress Today
I called my NYC District 15 Representative Charles Rangel's Washington office today and voiced my opposition to spending more money on the Iraq occupation, except to finance withdrawal. As a co-founder of the Out of Iraq Congressional caucus, Rresentative Rangel certainly should vote 'No'. I see that he didn't vote 'No' in January, and has promised a 'No' vote now. Hope he follows through. (Like, 'Polla', whose report is listed above, I too expected the 'report call results link' to take me to a specific 'reports' area, not a blog comments space.)
Iraq War Funding
This morning...Friday, May 15, 2008...my wife and I called the office of Rep. Baron Hill (D - 9th Dist.) with the simple statement: "No more funding for Iraq War."
Vote no on Iraq spending
I called Tim Murphy and told him to vote no on the Iraq spending bill and gave him my name and address. I also said "It's not up to him, it's up to us."
Kim Biondi
Calling Congressman's Office
I called Rahm Emmanuel's office (congressman from Chicago, IL), and just spoke to a staffer, urged him not to vote for further funding for Iraq, she took down my name and address and said she would convey the information to him.
163 BILLION: SCHUMER/ CLINTON/ MALONEY...NY
Schumer's office said ''undecided'' but that they are taking a ''tally''.
Clinton's office (unbelievably) asked me for the exact # of the bill. (AS IF it's not a HOT topic...)
When I couldn't provide it on the spot she transferred me to a ''diplomacy office'' or ''war office'' or something.
Basically she transferred me to an answering machine.
An EVASIVE move.
My comment to them:
"I'm watching these votes very carefully to determine my future votes for SENATORS, FUTURE GOVERNORS, or PRESIDENTS.''
***Maloney is DEAD SET AGAINST spending one more penny.
Additionally she wants the troops home by December.
(I thanked her as a Democrat and as a Voter.)
Call to representative to oppose funding for Iraq
I called 3/15/08 8:30 to Doris Matsui Washington office and spoke with staff who said she is opposed to funding. I saw the list of no votes on one of the previous pages and her name is not there. Anyway I just moved to this district from Barbara Lee's district in Oakland, Ca. She is the best and brightest and the only one in both houses who had the courage from day one to vote against this insane carpetbagger war.
great!!
i just added Matsui to the list above in bold :)
Calling Congresswoman to Oppose Iraw War Funding
This morning after getting into work and reading your email, I called my Representative Zoe Lofgren. One of her aids answered the phone and I told him I was a constituent from San Jose California and I am sick and tired of congress giving Bush more money for a war I greatly oppose. The young man said he would pass along my call.
Thank you for giving me this forum to voice my opinion.
I called Conyer's office
I called Conyer's office this a.m. and left the message not to give any more money for Iraq. The young man said he would give my message to Conyers.
I call Denny Rehberg's office
and Shiela said she would pass my comments on. It won't do any good, of course, unfortunately. Catherine Price
ALERT - Iraq Sellout #2: Call Congress Today
I called Conyer's office this a.m. I told the young man to tell Conyers no more funding of Iraq. He said he would give Conyers my message.
ALERT - Iraq Sellout #2: Call Congress Today
I called Conyer's office this a.m. I told the young man to tell Conyers no more funding of Iraq. He said he would give Conyers my message.
Called Tim Bishop
Spoke to a rep who took my info and said she would get back to me. She just called back and said that Tim Bishop would be voting NO!
great!!
i just added Bishop to the list above in bold :)
Stop the Bleeding / literally and economically
I called Rep. Elliot Engel's office and left my message to urge him not to approve the $163 billion for the Iraq occupation. He courteously said he'd pass my message along and that was that. I asked if he could tell me where the Congressman is leaning on this vote and was told that he couldn't give a clear answer...amendments could be added, specifics can change on the day of a vote...I was told only that Mr.Engle is a vocal oppononent to the war. But: Funding is the heart and sould of the war--this funding bill will REALLY show where our elected officials stand on the war.
Iraq war funding
I called Rep. Dave Loebsack, IA-02, at 11:15 a.m. on May 15 and told staffer I begged Loebsack to vote against further Iraq funding. She took my name and said she'd relay the message.
Kate
IRAQ
I called Nancy Pelosi's office & a rude assistant would not listen & forwarded me to the "comments" line. I explained I would be voting against her next election as she is not following the will of the people.
Called the den of evil......Frank Wolfe!
and asked that no additional funding be allowed. The woman who took the message was very polite and asked for all my information. I suppose I'm on a no-fly list now......
John Lewis
Is my congressman. I called his office to say keep up the good work knowing that he is voting against the bill.
Gerry Weller, Rep. IL
I called an urged no more money for this war. A polite young man ststed he'd be glad to give the message to Rep. Weller.
Ted Voth Jr
I called Tammy Baldwin. Told her 'No more supply for Bad King George, and just impeach him on his way out.' Her staffer was as always polite and promised to relay my message.
I'm disappointed in Tammy; her constituents eventually nagged her into signing on to impeachment, but then like all the rest she kinda petered out. She never talks about the significant issues– for me: silly little things like the Constitution, the Republic, and the rule of law– on her weekly email report.
I'm going to be looking seriously at her primary challenger Dave St Amant.
I also called the nancy madam of the 435-girl house in DC, and told the staffer of our 'fearless' – See Shirley Golub's first ad– 'leader' – as in 'They're advocates, we are leaders'– not to vote more supply, &c, &c, and 'Just impeach him on his way out.'
Her staffer kept trying to argue with me– guess he didn't realize he was talking to one of his boss's employers. I'm afraid I just talked louder than he did and said 'Thank you very much' and hung up on him
Iraq Occupation/war Bacerra
I called my representative Bacerra. The receptionist was polite and said she would pass my message on to him.
no more iraq funding
left a message with rick larsen's office at 10.15 a.m. pct. she was polite and took my info. i do hope to see his name on the 'no' list. marian rawson
Rep. Scott Garrett (R) , New Jersey's 5th Congressional District
1:25 pm Thursday -
I called Rep. Garrett's office and asked how he was going to vote on the supplemental war funding bill.
The staff member did not know, but took my name and address and said he would mail me an update on this issue. I told him to let Rep. Garrett know that I was against this bill. The staff member said he would let Rep. Garret know. The staff member suggested that I sign up to Rep. Garrett's email site, so that I could get info on how he is intending to vote on the issues in the future. This will allow me to object to other bad policies before their vote occurs.
John Mica - Florida's 7th
I called John Mica's Washington office and told his staffer I was a voting member of his constituency, urged him not to vote for any addition funding for the war in Iraq, and told the staffer I would be monitoring his voting on this issue very closely.
Virgil Goode (R) - Virginia's 5th Congressional District
I called the phone number provided in the e-mail and was directed to Virgil Goode's office. I spoke with a very polite young man, whom I told that I was a constituent from Goode's district who wanted him to vote "No" on the vote for more money in Iraq. The young man took my name and address and said he would pass on the information to Mr. Goode.
I called my Congressman,
I called my Congressman, Mike Thompson, and understood he is voting agianst new war funding but supports one of the parts that sets a withdrawal date. I notice his name is not listed on the Jan 15 vote. Why? Also, I phoned both his Washington number and his local number.
thanks!!
I added Thompson above :)
Called Lois Capps (D) CA
I called Lois Capps...she's voting no! Thanks for the heads-up.
great!!
Capps is now on the list above :)
Iraq Spending
I, Pallas Houser at 2:10 p.m. called Sen. Lugar, Evan Bayh and Dan Burton's office and they took my name and address and phone number and told me they would relay the message to them and Thanked me for calling and they were very nice about me calling.
