Decades
After millions of words about Iraq, it all comes down to one word:
Decades.
That's from the Washington Post's Baghdad reporter on 10/31/06:
The top U.S. military commander in Iraq, Gen. George W. Casey Jr., predicted last week that Iraqi security forces would be able to take control of the country in 12 to 18 months. But several days spent with American units training the Iraqi police illustrated why those soldiers on the ground believe it may take decades longer than Casey's assessment.
Decades. Why decades?
Seventy percent of the Iraqi police force has been infiltrated by militias, primarily the Mahdi Army, according to Shaw and other military police trainers. Police officers are too terrified to patrol enormous swaths of the capital. And while there are some good cops, many have been assassinated or are considering quitting the force. "None of the Iraqi police are working to make their country better," said Brig. Gen. Salah al-Ani, chief of police for the western half of Baghdad. "They're working for the militias or to put money in their pocket."
Decades - all to empower murderous sectarian militias, rob U.S. taxpayers blind, and kill or maim more U.S. soldiers.
Just this month we lost 103 brave young Americans, bringing the U.S. total to 2,816.
But George Bush insists U.S. troops absolutely will not leave Iraq until "victory" is achieved - however long that takes.
Decades.
The children of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq may grow up to fight and die in Iraq, just like their parents.
And between now and then, 100 American soldiers may die every single month.
Decades.
Do you want to send today's high school seniors to fight and die in Iraq to train Iraqis who won't defend their country for Decades?
Do you want to send today's high school freshmen to fight and die in Iraq to train Iraqis who won't defend their country for Decades?
Do you want to send today's junior high freshmen to fight and die in Iraq to train Iraqis who won't defend their country for Decades?
Do you want to send today's first graders to fight and die in Iraq to train Iraqis who won't defend their country for Decades?
Do you want to send all of their children to fight and die in Iraq to train Iraqis who won't defend their country for Decades?
If your answer to this question is No, then please take one small action: send this email to everyone you know and implore them to vote a straight Democratic ticket next Tuesday November 7.
Our children - and their children - will thank you.

p.s. While every poll points to a Democratic victory on November 7, Karl Rove insists Republicans will win. Is he planning to steal another election, like he did in 2000 and 2004? And there are many more listed. This is the same article posted in many places. I personally posted it at BuzzFlash to try and get it published and I got it published at OpEdNews. How come Americans are so mad and angry that the estimates, that are estimates of 655,000 Iraqis are dead but when there are an estimate of over 12,000+ dead American soldiers, even the conservatives are crying FOWL? The Bush administration has proven they have lied over and over again and because we can't get into Dover AFB to prove this, everybody is saying that there is no hard evidence to prove this. NO (Expletive deleted!!!) We can't get into Dover because Bush won't let any body in to count. Thousands of American soldiers are deserting to Canada and Switzerland because they know it is an illegal war because they don't want to be counted as a statistic and possibly one of those 9300+ that are NOT accounted for. I emailed this article to thousands of reporters and every network news service and even the progressive news services where I thought I would get at least some play on the article. NO ONE except one reporter in Iraq even emailed me back and he said that there was no hard evidence. I said back to him that you're the investigator, go and investigate. Even the young lady that makes anti-was and anti-Bush videos that uses the faces and names of the dead soldiers and Marines in Iraq refuses to believe that there are more dead as she keeps a database of the dead. She won't even email me back to even attempt to investigate he fact there are more dead. A lady in my area has a car with all the dead names on it. She wouldn't return my emails either. NO ONE wants to acknowledge this fact. And these are Americans ignoring Americans. But OH MY GOD THERE ARE 655,000 DEAD IRAQIS. POOR IRAQ!!! SCREW IRAQ!!!!! We should be worrying about these 9300+ dead Americans and figuring out WHERE THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone needs to start getting into DOVER AFB and taking a true count of the bodies before Bush and his cronies bury them before they can be truly counted.
These are definitely things that we need to know...
Until we take over the House and Senate, we cannot organize or direct the investigations into this with the subpoena power to demand the presence and under-oath, the testimony of those individuals who do know.
Ray Taliaferro and Bernie Ward of KGO San Francisco have both estimated total casualties for our side--wounded and killed--might exceed 500,000.
Researching Mortuary trade magazines might give some insight into just what is going on.

Where are the families/relatives of the 10,000
KIAs? They would certainly be heard from if the
bodies of their loved ones were missing.

While the official figures KIA in Iraq should be viewed with suspicion I agree that direct relatives should stand up - and be counted - to obtain a more realistic figure.

No soldier sacrificing his / her life should ever be considered unworthy enough to die unnoticed simply to protect public opinion - or politicians.
Quite early on in this invasion it was common knowledge that severely injured soldiers who were taken to, and subsequently died in , Germany, were not added to the death toll of those who died in Iraq.
Are American Mercenaries - conveniently renamed Government Contractors - added to this official list?
I think not !
There were articles on the "Net around 2003 - 2004, of Iraqi's witnessing a mass burial of American soldiers - by American soldiers - and I wouldn't entirely dismiss the claim being made that 10,000 soldiers have died in Iraq.
With such an evil, corrupt government spewing out nothing but lies, who - in their right mind - would believe the "official" "anything" anyway ?
A photograph on a memorial website would remind us all of the true statistics - including those of innocent Iraqis - and only then would we all be given the opportunity to bow our heads in shame for allowing them all to die in the first place.

In Pennsylvania, Greens, using GOP funding, went against the Dem candidate and attempted to swing the election in favor of Rick Santorum. Really bright.

Communicate!
Please! Stop preaching to the choir and put out some focused, informative, cogent message ads targeting the rest of the electorate. If the Democratic Party cannot convey the gravity of the situation our country is in, it doesn't deserve to hold power. Take inspiration from some of the most effective progressive communicators in the media--Al Franken, Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart. They RESPECT their listeners and frame their arguments and barbs accordingly. Don't fall back on the stupid attacks and slogans. The future of our country is in the balance this final week.
