BlogCall 1.2 - Post-call Discussion

Let's discuss BlogCall1 with John Aravosis of Americablog.com...

Solana Larsen at OpenDemocracy.net sends the first blog link:

Why is it interesting? People are wondering whether the White House knew Gannon was a plant, and let him stay to make Bush look good in press conferences. There's a national security angle, and allegations of religious right sexual hypocrisy too. In pushing the story Aravosis says that as a journalist and a blogger he is only interested in "the truth". On a more cynical note he says, "As soon as you mention George Bush and gay hooker in the same sentence, we've won".

On AmericaBlog he surprises himself by emphatically recommending an article from the consvervative WorldNetDaily. "I don't think any of use could have written this," he says during the BlogCall, and recommends the final paragraph especially: "It raises serious security questions. It raises questions of propriety. It raises questions of judgment. And it raises questions about the role of a free press in a free society."

But the main issue for bloggers right now seems to be to keep the story alive.

Carolyn Kay blogs at RadioLeft.com:

A new online effort organized by Democrats.com had its maiden voyage today.  It's BlogCall, which will try to put bloggers and mainstream media together, covering stories in the blogosphere to give depth to stories and make the bloggers covering them available to other bloggers and people in the media.

Don Waller blogs at Blah3.com:

I just wrapped up a conference call organized by Bob Fertik of Democrats.com, which was the rollout of a new organization called BlogCall. The concept is to build a bridge between lefty bloggers and the mainstream media - an advantage the Right enjoys, but the Left has never cultivated. A loose description would be it's a telephone equivalent of Grover Norquist's famous meetings in DC. Part think tank, part press conference, part brainstorming session...

I'm pretty excited about being a part of BlogCall - it's an idea whose time has come, and I applaud Bob Fertik and his team for pulling it together. We may just have gotten a little Wurlitzer of our own...

Good first session, Bob.

Having Aravosis as the debut guest was the way to go.

The participants brought up some great points for research - I'm going to go back to my notes shortly and see if there's one line or another I can tackle in the coming weeks.

Good start! I look forward to hearing Brad from BradBlog.

I just listened to blog call

I was impressed. There are some really sharp democrats out there. If we work together we can overcome the corporate media blackout that's protecting this administration from all the scandals they're involved in.

Kudos to all the bloggers out there and to everyone who organized this!

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Where's the link Necco?

I'm so sorry...

Here ya go.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Thanks.

Thanks.
